Lizards fall into the category of reptiles. Lizards are found in almost all over the world. Lizards are cold-blooded reptiles, live in different environments. Lizards live in trees, underground, on the banks of rivers, or in the desert. Some lizards consume insects, others fruits, and others consume small mammals. Lizards come in various sizes, some lizards look like dinosaurs, while some are like human fingers. Different types of Lizards follow different methods of defense system, reproduction system and predation.

Different Types Of Snakes

Lizards have very sharp eyesight. Lizards have another third eye on top of their head through which they senses whether it's day or night. Tongues are different in different type of lizards basically they are sticky, so that they can catch the insects which are flying. Each Lizard has human-like hands with an opposable thumb, and fingers through which they crawl on the trees. Most of the lizards have four legs, but some have only two legs and even some of them don't have legs.

Kinds Of Turtles

There are nearly 5,000 families of lizards in this world. Though these lizards share the common characteristics, there is a great variety among the species. Some of them are chameleons, geckos, skinks, iguanas, monitors etc.

IGUANAS:    Iguana is found in South and Central America. They are very common types of lizards. These lizards are basically vegetarian. Green iguanas stay in trees and the brown or black varieties prefer ground or water. Iguanas are often named “tree chicken” as Americans like to eat them. Black or brown iguanas are named “garrobo” or “iguana soup”. These lizards can run very fast.

GECKOS:   Geckos are tiny lizards that fall under the family named Gekkonidae. These lizards are extinct.  These tropical lizards have bright green bodies and orange or yellow colored feet. Gecko is the only lizard that has the ability of barking or speaking. There are 2000 different types of Geckos. Some of the common families of geckos are Leopard gecko, House gecko, Golden gecko etc.

Types Of Geckos

CHAMELEONS:  These are mainly found in Asia and Africa. These Lizards can change colors very quickly. The change in skin color happens due to various reasons like self defense, changes in environments. Different types of chameleons are Jackson's chameleon, Common chameleon etc.

Types Of Lizards

DRAGON LIZARDS:  A flying dragon lizard has two large wings like flaps of skin, which are accompanied by elongated ribs. The colors of the wings are very bright and for this reason they are called “butterfly lizards”.

AGIMALS: Agimals are lizards of old world. Some agimals enjoy the water of rivers and others prefer trees.

COLLARED LIZARDS:  These lizards are wild and they consume other families of lizards. Collered lizards are dark or colorless. When these lizards enjoy the sun, the color becomes bright.

BASILISKS:  These lizards can run very fast also. These lizards are named “Jesus Christ Lizards”.

SKINKS: These lizards have very small, smooth scales. These lizards have long cylindrical body. Skinks have intricate, beautiful colorful patterns.

GILA MONSTERS: These lizards have very beautiful banded design in their scales. These scales are often colored in red and black.

Other important families of lizards which are commonly found are Beaded lizard, Crocodile lizard, Alligator lizards, monitor lizards etc.

PET LIZARDS: Different types of pet lizards are Green Iguanas, Geckos, and Chameleons etc.
